Flat steel production increased by 6.4% y/y
Kazakhstan’s metallurgical enterprises increased steel production by 3.9% in 2025 compared to 2024, reaching 4.27 million tons, according to Kallanish, citing data from the Ministry of Economy’s statistics committee.
Flat steel production grew by 6.4% year-on-year last year, reaching 2.88 million tons.
In December, steel production increased by 13.7% compared to the previous month and by 24.8% compared to December 2024, reaching 443,920 tons. Rolled metal production for the month amounted to 282,370 tons (+18.7% month-on-month; +39.3% year-on-year).
It should be noted that in 2024, Kazakhstan increased steel production by 9.5% compared to 2023, reaching 4.17 million tons. Flat steel production for the year increased by 18.2% compared to 2023, reaching 2.9 million tons.
In 2024, the Kazakh steel plant Qarmet exceeded its production targets by 15% for pig iron, 15% – for steel, 18% – for coke, 12% – for sinter, and 17% – for rolled products. The improved performance of the industry’s main enterprise has a positive impact on the country’s overall production volume.
In 2024, Qarmet and the Chinese company Xinxing Ductile Iron Pipes Co agreed to build a cast iron pipe manufacturing plant in Kazakhstan. The plant’s design capacity will be 200,000 tons per year, and the total investment will be $161 million.
The company also signed a $1 billion agreement with China Metallurgical Group to establish long-term and comprehensive cooperation in the iron and steel industry.
