Italy increased steel production by 6.1% y/y in June

Overall, in the first six months of 2026, Italian steelmakers increased production by 3.5% compared with the same period last year, reaching 11.5 million tonnes.

Monthly trends in steel production in Italy in 2026:

• January: 1.7 million tonnes (+1.8% compared with January 2025);
• February: 1.9 million tonnes (+2.7%), cumulative volume — 3.6 million tonnes (+2.3%);
• March: 2.1 million tonnes (+0.2%), cumulative total — 5.6 million tonnes (+1.5%);
• April: 1.9 million tonnes (+7.3%), cumulative total — 7.6 million tonnes (+2.9%);
• May: 2 million tonnes (+3.1%), cumulative total — 9.6 million tonnes (+3.0%);
• June: 1.9 million tonnes (+6.1%), cumulative total — 11.5 million tonnes (+3.5%).

In the long products segment, production in June stood at 1.1 million tonnes (+5.4% year-on-year). For January–June, output of these products reached 6.9 million tonnes, exceeding last year’s figure by 7.8%.

Flat steel production in June increased by 7.7% to 780,000 tonnes. However, for the first half of the year, flat steel production fell by 5.4% year-on-year, totalling 4.6 million tonnes.

As reported by GMK Center, Italy increased its steel production by 3.6% in 2025 compared with 2024, reaching 20.7 million tonnes.

Production of flat steel products rose by 3.8% last year compared with 2024, reaching 8.9 million tonnes, whilst production of long steel products increased by 5.5% year-on-year – to 12.3 million tonnes.
