Long product production increased by 20.6% m/m, while flat product production increased by 16.7% m/m
In January 2026, Italian steel companies increased steel production by 19.2% compared to the previous month, to 1.72 million tons. Compared to the same period in 2025, the figure increased by 1.6%. This is evidenced by data from the industry association Federacciai, according to SteelOrbis.
Flat steel production in January amounted to 774,000 tons, down 1.8% year-on-year but up 16.7% month-on-month, while long steel production amounted to 978,000 tons (+13.2% year-on-year; +20.6% month-on-month).

As reported by GMK Center, Italy increased its steel production by 3.6% compared to 2024, reaching 20.7 million tons in 2025. In December, steel production decreased by 17.5% compared to the previous month, but increased by 20.5% compared to December 2024, reaching 1.45 million tons.
Flat steel production over the past year increased by 3.8% compared to 2024, to 8.9 million tons, and long steel production increased by 5.5% year-on-year, to 12.3 million tons.
Overall, EU countries reduced steel production by 2.6% last year compared to 2024, to 126.2 million tons. In December, the figure rose by 3.9% y/y, to 9.9 million tons.
