It is expected that operational management will be transferred to Węglokoks, which already leases the plant
Poland’s Ministry of National Defense (MON) has officially started the process of buying out the Huta Częstochowa steel plant. The relevant request was submitted to the Częstochowa Commercial Court on March 7, 2025. This is the first time in history that Poland’s defense ministry has exercised the right of priority acquisition of a strategic enterprise under bankruptcy law, according to nam.
Previously, it was planned to sell the plant at an open auction, but after Huta Częstochowa was included in the list of strategic enterprises in Poland, the situation changed. The Ministry of Defense, according to the law, was given the right of first refusal.
Despite the transfer of the enterprise to state ownership, MON will not be directly involved in its management. It is expected that operational management will be transferred to Węglokoks, which already leases the plant.
The next step in the procedure will be a re-evaluation of Huty Częstochowa’s assets by a court-appointed expert. Only after the valuation is approved will the final buyout be possible.
Financial support for the company’s reopening is provided by the Industrial Development Agency (ARP). In February, it provided funding to Węglokoks, which allowed it to start a gradual resuscitation of production. In January 2025, after a 14-month downtime, the plant resumed steelmaking and launched a plate production line in February.
Huta Częstochowa is of strategic importance for the Polish economy and defense industry. Its integration into government structures will ensure the stability of the plant’s operations and further development.
As GMK Center reported earlier, on February 3, 2025, Huta Częstochowa reached a key milestone in its resumption of operations – it launched production in the plate mill (Walcownia Blach Grubych). This was the last step towards the company reaching full capacity after more than a year of downtime.
