Huta Częstochowa is being transferred to the joint ownership of AMW and Węglokoks

The signing of the relevant agreement is expected on May 18

An agreement will be signed in Poland on May 18 under which the Military Property Agency (AMW) will become a co-owner of the Huta Częstochowa steelworks. The ceremony will be attended by Paweł Bejda, State Secretary at the Polish Ministry of National Defense, and Grzegorz Wrona, Deputy Minister of State Assets. This is stated in a press release from the Ministry of National Defense.

Under the terms of the agreement, AMW will acquire a stake in Huta Częstochowa Sp. z o.o. by contributing the plant’s assets as a capital contribution. Upon completion of the transaction, the company will become jointly owned by AMW and the Węglokoks Group.

It is expected that the new ownership structure will allow for an increase in the company’s capital and ensure the continued operation of the enterprise as the owner of production assets rather than a lessee.

Huta Częstochowa found itself in crisis following the bankruptcy of its previous owner. In November 2024, the plant was leased to Huta Częstochowa Sp. z o.o., a member of the Węglokoks Group. The new operator resumed production and not only preserved jobs but also increased the workforce to over 1,380 employees.

At the end of 2025, the plant’s assets were purchased by the Polish Ministry of National Defense. Asset management was transferred to AMW, while production continued under the lease agreement with Węglokoks.

This new phase of restructuring effectively solidifies the Polish state’s involvement in the development of one of the country’s key producers of heavy plate. Huta Częstochowa is Poland’s largest producer of heavy plate for the machinery, shipbuilding, energy, and defense industries.

Previously, the plant’s management reported that since resuming operations in 2025, the company has already produced approximately 500,000 tons of steel and is actively developing products for the defense sector. In particular, the plant has obtained a license to manufacture specialized military products and plans to increase production of high-margin steels for shipbuilding and the defense industry.
