Total production in the CIS countries and Ukraine decreased by 23.7% y/y for the month

Global steel production in October 2022 remained at the level of the same month of 2021 – 147.3 million tons. This is evidenced by the global rating of 64 steel-producing countries World Steel Association.

Total steel production in the CIS countries and Ukraine in October 2022 fell by 23.7% y/y – to 6.7 million tons.

The top ten producing countries, according to World Steel, include:

  • China – 79.8 million tons (+11% compared to October 2021);
  • India – 10.5 million tons (+2.7%);
  • Japan – 7.3 million tons (-10.6%);
  • USA – 6.7 million tons (-8.9%);
  • Russia – 5.8 million tons (-11.5%);
  • South Korea – 5.1 million tons (-12.1%);
  • Germany – 3.1 million tons (-14.4%);
  • Turkiye – 2.9 million tons (-17.8%);
  • Brazil – 2.8 million tons (-4.5%);
  • Iran – 2.9 million tons (+3.5%).

In January-October 2022, world production decreased by 3.9% compared to the same period in 2021 – to 1.553 billion tons. The CIS countries and Ukraine for 10 months of 2022 reduced the total production of steel by 19% – to 72.6 million tons

As GMK Center reported earlier, in 2021 global steel output increased by 3.7% compared to 2020 – up to 1.95 billion tons. Ukraine in 2021 increased production by 3.6% – up to 21.4 million tons. The country took 14th place in the global ranking of 64 steel-producing countries.
