In January-April 2024, Germany reduced imports of rolled steel products from third countries by 2.5% compared to the same period in 2023, to 264.12 thousand tons. This is evidenced by GMK Center’s calculations based on Eurostat data.

Over 4 months, imports of flat products increased by 0.7% y/y, while imports of long products decreased by 3.4% y/y – to 57.62 thousand tons and 206.5 thousand tons, respectively. Long products accounted for more than 78% of total steel imports to Germany in January-April 2024.

The bulk of imports came from wire rod – 50.8 thousand tons (+108% y/y), rebar – 44.9 thousand tons (-21% y/y), and hot-rolled flat products – 32.24 thousand tons (+191% y/y).
