Acciaierie d’Italia will stop blast furnace №1 for modernization in August

Europe’s largest steel plant, Acciaierie d’Italia (ADI), will shut down blast furnace №1 in August 2023 for modernization. This is reported by Kallanish with the reference to the source of the company.

During the downtime, the company will install Meros filters on the unit’s sintering equipment. Additional equipment is required to obtain the national environmental permit Autorizzazione Integrata Ambientale (AIA).

The blast furnace will resume operation in September after the filters are fully installed and put into operation.

Acciaierie d’Italia employs more than 10,000 people and operates blast furnaces №2 and 4. In the second half of 2023, the company plans to begin the reconstruction of BF №5, which has been idle for several years, and also to begin construction of an electric arc furnace.

As GMK Center reported earlier, in 2022, Acciaierie d’Italia produced 3.5 million tons of steel and 3.3 million tons of pig iron. Steel sales amounted to 3 million tons, including 2.6 million tons of coiled steel and 243.62 thousand tons of thick plate. ADI’s revenue in 2022 amounted to €3.9 billion, and EBITDA was €327 million.

Also, the steel companies of Italy in 2022 reduced steel production by 11.5% compared to the same period of the previous year – to 21.6 million tons. In 2022, the output of long products in the country decreased by 12% y/y – to 12.03 million tons, flat products – by 13.8% y/y, to 9.55 million tons.
