In January–May, the figure rose by 0.1 per cent y/y
In May 2026, Kazakhstan increased its steel production by 7.5% month-on-month and by 6.2% year-on-year, reaching 393.84 thousand tonnes. This was reported by Kallanish, citing data from the Statistics Committee of the Ministry of Economy.
In January–May, the figure stood at 1.79 million tonnes (+0.1% year-on-year).
Flat steel production in the country rose by 1.4% month-on-month in May to 230.87 thousand tonnes. Compared with the same period last year, the figure fell by 9.2%.
In January–May, Kazakhstan produced 1.18 million tonnes of flat steel, which is 2.5% less than in the first five months of 2025.
It should be noted that, according to the results for 2025, Kazakhstan’s steelworks increased steel output by 3.9% compared with 2024, reaching 4.27 million tonnes. Flat steel production last year rose by 6.4% year-on-year to 2.88 million tonnes.
As reported by GMK Center, the Kazakh steel company Qarmet is expanding its range of reinforcing bars to include A500CEU grade products with diameters ranging from 8 to 40 mm, characterised by increased ductility and resistance to repeated loading.
Furthermore, in May this year, the company commenced the active phase of construction of a new bar rolling mill at the Temirtau steelworks site. Its commissioning will enable Qarmet to significantly expand its range of high value-added products and strengthen its position in the construction steel market.
