Węglokoks signs agreement on restructuring of Huta Pokój

Polish coal company Węglokoks has signed an agreement to restructure its Huta Pokój Profile and Huta Pokój Konstrukcje steel plants in Ruda Śląska, Poland. The document envisages measures aimed at financial recovery and optimization of the companies’ operations. This was reported by Dziennik Zachodni.

According to Węglokoks President Tomasz Ślezak, the debt of Huta Pokój enterprises to the company is “huge,” but specific amounts are not disclosed. The plan calls for converting debt into equity, optimizing costs, reorganizing assets, attracting investment, and consolidating the two companies.

Despite the complexity of the situation, the management assures that the reform is not aimed at mass layoffs. However, there may be personnel changes, including the transfer of employees to other Węglokoks enterprises, in particular to Huta Częstochowa.

Although the distance between Ruda Śląska and Częstochowa is almost 100 km, Ślezak emphasized that such changes are a reality of the modern labor market. A program of voluntary layoffs with the possibility of retraining and social guarantees is also planned.

The restructuring includes modernization of production, including the construction of a new hall for welding structures and upgrading of production lines. Węglokoks emphasizes the transparency of the process and its readiness to engage in a dialogue with all stakeholders.

As GMK Center reported earlier, Węglokoks is interested in restoring the operations of troubled steelmaking companies in Poland. In particular, in early February, the company, as a tenant, reached a key milestone in the resumption of Huta Częstochowa’s operations by launching production at the plate mill (Walcownia Blach Grubych). This was the last step towards the company reaching full capacity after more than a year of downtime.

In addition, the possibility of cooperation between Huta Częstochowa and the liquidated Rurexpol pipe-rolling plant is being explored. The plant used to be part of Huta Częstochowa, which provided it with a competitive advantage due to shared resources and its own raw material procurement. Rurexpol specialized in the production of drill pipes, which are in high demand on the market.

Huta Pokój is one of the oldest steel plants in Poland, founded in 1840. The company specializes in the production of steel profiles, structures and elements for construction. Huta Pokój Profile and Huta Pokój Konstrukcje are part of a steel structure group that is important for the Silesian industry.
