Ukraine and Moldova extended transport visa-free until 2025

The agreement provides for the possibility to carry out two-way and transit transportation by road transport without special permits

The Ministry of Development of Communities, Territories and Infrastructure of Ukraine and the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development of Moldova have agreed to extend the Agreement on the Liberalization of Freight Transportation between the countries until the end of 2025. This is stated in the press release.

The agreement provides for the possibility to carry out two-way and transit transportation by road transport without special permits. The protocol with the decision to extend the validity of the transport visa-free was signed at the meeting of the Ukrainian-Moldovan Joint Commission on international road traffic on September 13-14, 2023.

«The possibility of unhindered freight transportation through the territory of Moldova is one of the tools for establishing and increasing our export opportunities. Separately, we are also already working on the issue of verification of all bus routes between our countries and simplification of the procedure for their opening by carriers. We appreciate the cooperation with Moldova for the economic development of our countries», noted the Deputy Prime Minister for Reconstruction – Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine Oleksandr Kubrakov.

The relevant agreement was signed in August 2022 and is valid until the end of this year, with the possibility of extension upon agreement of the parties.

As GMK Center reported earlier, Verkhovna Rada ratified amendments to the Agreement between the Governments of Ukraine and Moldova on the activity of railway transport, according to which the transfer of freight railcars between countries is simplified. The approved changes will allow transit transportation on the Etulia-Reni-Giurgiulesti section without a 3-day stop in Reni

Ukrainian Railways (UZ) will also provide the service of transportation of goods by transit on the territory of Moldova in all connections. The relevant contract was concluded by the Transport Logistics Center branch of Ukrainian Railways and the Moldovan railway operator Calea Ferată din Moldova (CFM). This step will make it possible to strengthen the export capabilities of the UZ and increase the volume of transportation of strategically important export cargoes.
