Steel Front has built more than 80 km of fortifications in Donetsk and Zaporizhzhia regions

The Steel Front military initiative has already contributed to the construction of 55 platoon strongholds with a total length of more than 80 km in the Avdiivka, Kurakhove and Zaporizhzhia sectors of the military operations. This is stated in a press release by Metinvest.Media.

The construction of the first and second line of defense fortifications intensified in December 2023 in coordination with the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine and in cooperation with the engineering troops.

Up to a hundred specialists of SCM Group companies – drivers, crane and excavator operators, as well as up to 25 units of various special equipment – excavators, truck cranes, large trucks – were involved in the construction of the defensive structures.

The platoon strongholds were constructed using steel “shelters” – Metinvest’s own corrugated steel structures that are installed underground and protect against shelling. In total, 43 mobile steel bunkers were installed in the above-mentioned areas in the spring.

«Since the first days of the full-scale invasion, Steel Front has been involved in the construction of fortifications near the front line. Last year, we, Metinvest, had to intensify our work because the enemy keeps trying to break through the Ukrainian defense. Steel Front considers it necessary to mobilize all possible resources to build fortifications that will help stop the aggressor and protect the lives of hundreds of thousands of civilians in Donetsk and Zaporizhzhia oblasts. We stand shoulder to shoulder with the Armed Forces of Ukraine to defend our right to live and work on free Ukrainian land!» said Metinvest Group’s Chief Operating Officer Olexander Mironenko.

The construction of the fortifications will continue. Currently, the most active work is being carried out around the clock in the Donetsk sector in cooperation with the Donetsk regional military-civilian administration. And in the Kurakhove sector, together with DTEK.

In 2023, Metinvest Group, including its associates and joint ventures, paid UAH 14.6 billion in taxes and fees to the budgets of all levels in Ukraine. The largest contributions included a unified social contribution (USC) of UAH 3.3 billion, income tax of UAH 3.2 billion and personal income tax of over UAH 3 billion.

In addition, since the beginning of the full-scale war, Metinvest has contributed UAH 4.8 billion to help Ukraine and its citizens, including over UAH 2.5 billion to the army as part of the Steel Front military initiative.
