The new EAF Ultimate Move furnace combines flexibility, productivity, and lower capital costs for steel producers

Primetals Technologies has unveiled its new EAF Ultimate Move electric arc furnace, positioned as a next-generation solution for electric steelmaking. The design draws on the company’s more than 40 years of experience and combines the key technological advantages of the EAF Ultimate and EAF Quantum models.

The new equipment is primarily aimed at new projects where optimizing capital expenditures is a critical factor. Thanks to its improved design, the EAF Ultimate Move reduces production cycle times, minimizes floor space requirements, and lowers maintenance costs. This allows manufacturers to increase efficiency without a significant increase in investment.

One of the furnace’s key features is its high flexibility in raw material usage. It is capable of processing various types of charge, including scrap metal, blast furnace iron, and hot-briquetted iron, which expands opportunities for adapting to market conditions.

Among the engineering solutions is a movable support structure that allows the furnace body to be moved to the casting area. This reduces infrastructure requirements, particularly for crane systems and building heights, and helps lower overall costs. Additionally, the FAST system has been implemented, enabling steel production without interrupting the power supply, thereby shortening production cycles.

Within Primetals’ portfolio, the new model complements existing solutions: the EAF Ultimate remains effective for modernizing existing facilities, while the EAF Quantum is designed for production with minimal energy consumption.

The EAF Ultimate Move was unveiled at the AISTech 2026 conference, where the company presented new approaches to improving the efficiency and flexibility of steelmaking.

As a reminder, two Quantum electric arc furnaces for Chinese steelmaker Hubei Shunle, supplied by Primetals Technologies, set a world record by consistently performing up to 50 melts per day. This represents an unprecedented level of productivity for EAF-based facilities.
