The group remains a reliable pillar of the country in the fight against the enemy
Since the beginning of the full-scale war, Metinvest Group has allocated UAH 6.9 billion to help Ukraine and its citizens, including more than UAH 3.4 billion for the needs of the army as part of the Steel Front military initiative. This is stated in the company’s press release.
«The full-scale war has become the most difficult challenge in all 18 years of Metinvest’s existence. Due to the destruction and occupation of Mariupol and Avdiivka, we have lost perhaps the most among Ukrainian businesses. However, the enemy will never succeed in killing our will and depriving us of our faith in a free future. Every day, Metinvest’s team is moving forward. It supports the Armed Forces and civilians. It works. It remains steadfast to be a pillar of support and ensure the stability of the economy. For almost two and a half years, the company has allocated UAH 6.9 billion to help the state and its citizens. After all, Ukraine’s steel heart must beat 24/7. And it does – thanks to our unbreakable people,” comments Yuriy Ryzhenkov, CEO of the company.
According to NV magazine, Metinvest is the largest private donor to the army. The company develops a range of products for the Armed Forces, including special steel for armor plates, protection for frontline vehicles and tanks, and special mobile shelters. The group’s specialists also contribute to the construction of strongholds and defensive fortifications, manufacture decoy targets, etc.
To strengthen the defense capabilities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the company has established a systematic supply of machinery and equipment to the frontline. In particular, the defense sector received more than 4.9 thousand reconnaissance drones. In addition, the company delivered 2,000 high-precision military optics, 450 backup power systems, 875 pieces of communication equipment, more than 520 vehicles for various purposes and 1.4 million liters of fuel to the Ukrainian defense forces.
At the same time, 10 high-speed boats and 800 self-inflating life jackets worth UAH 53 million are helping the Armed Forces to resist the enemy on the water.
About 100 specialized ambulances, 31,500 first aid kits and hemostatic turnstiles are saving the lives of soldiers on the front line. Metinvest is also developing tactical medicine in Ukraine in cooperation with the PULSE charity foundation.
Metinvest’s enterprises in Ukraine operate under the constant threat of enemy shelling. The Group’s assets in Mariupol and Avdiivka have been damaged by hostilities and the cities are occupied. Nevertheless, the company’s enterprises continue to operate at varying levels of utilization, taking into account security, staff availability, power supply, as well as logistical and economic factors.
Currently, more than 8,000 employees of Metinvest and its joint ventures and associates serve in the Ukrainian Armed Forces. The company provides them with bulletproof vests, helmets, and winter clothing sets.
The Group also provides assistance to civilians. Most of the aid comes as part of the Saving Lives humanitarian project. More than half a million people have already received support. The group has delivered 4.2 thousand tons of food, personal care products and other essentials to Ukraine. Hospitals were provided with medicines and equipment worth UAH 9.5 million.
In addition, Metinvest is a reliable support for employees and their families. Since the beginning of the war, the company has helped to organize the evacuation of about 20,000 people from Mariupol and Avdiivka and prepared more than 6,000 temporary accommodation places. It is also helping its employees in Zaporizhzhia, Kryvyi Rih and Pokrovsk to rebuild their homes destroyed by shelling.
As GMK Center reported earlier, Metinvest has identified priority areas for investment in 2024-2025, including employees, equipment and assistance to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This year, the company plans to invest $320 million in capital and about $350 million in operating investments in equipment and work sites.
