Kametstal set up the production of a mine rack on a pipe-making mill

Kametstal Iron and Steel Works has mastered the production of SVP-27 longitudinal shaped sections using a pipe bending mill. The company was the first in Ukraine to produce the relevant products in this way. This is stated in the press release of the plant.

«The SVP-27 profile, or the so-called mine rack, is intended for fastening mining products in mines. This is a necessary element in the technology of coal mining, which depends not only on the productivity of the process, but also on the safety of miners,» the message says.

Previously, this product, which is in demand by Ukrainian mining companies, was produced at Azovstal’s long-range rolling mill. In November, the plant rolled 1 thousand tons of new products for domestic customers.

«At Kametstal, a lot of work preceded the development of the new type of rolled products. After all, a pipe billet mill had never produced a section of such a complex configuration before. A highly professional team, which included the best specialists from the rolling shop, rolling mill, production department, calibration bureau, and the plant’s production department, worked on the equipment and technology.,» the company notes.

For this purpose, calibration and installation diagrams were developed, rolling fittings were manufactured, numerical software programs were defined for roll turning at the rolling mill, and shaped knives were manufactured for cutting long products, etc.

In addition, the equipment of the roller straightening machine, which is designed to bring rolled steel products into compliance with regulatory requirements for straightness of profiles, was restored at the adjacent profile straightening section.

«Our joint teamwork has resulted in the successful implementation of the program for the development of this in-demand product, which is essential for the domestic mining industry. We were the first in Ukraine to create the capability to produce long products in a pipe rolling mill. SVP-27 has passed certification tests that confirmed the rolled products’ compliance with the requirements of the state standard, and we are already considering the prospects for further expansion of the new product line at Kametstal,» noted Oleksandr Oliynyk, chief rolling stock operator.

As GMK Center reported earlier, Kametstal id working on optimization production processes and reducing the consumption of energy resources. In particular, during September, the mill’s rolling mills reduced the consumption factor of steel from 1026.9 to 1026.2 kg per ton of finished rolled steel. In addition, by optimizing the scheme of placing steel in the heating furnace during the rolling of wire rod with diameters of 5.5 and 6 mm, the enterprise managed to reduce the consumption of natural gas by 53 thousand cubic meters.
