Kametstal has set up the production of 100 mm grinding balls of the highest hardness

The company has produced the first batch of fifth-group hardness balls for the needs of mining combines

The ball rolling section of the rolling mill at the Kametstal iron and steel plant has successfully mastered the production of 100 mm grinding balls of increased hardness, a product that is critical for the stable operation of mining and processing plants (M&P). This is stated in the company’s report.

This is another step by the company to expand its product range and improve the quality of products in demand by industrial consumers.

Production of 100 mm balls began in 2023. To ensure the necessary characteristics, the rolling mill modernized its equipment according to its own drawings. Thanks to clearly defined hardening parameters, the company was initially able to produce balls of the third hardness group.

In 2025, Kametstal specialists set a goal to move to the fifth hardness group. As a result of a series of experiments, the required surface and volume hardness was achieved. To do this, they changed the heat treatment mode, adjusted the rotation of the bucket conveyor and the drum of the hardening device, increased the water supply, and optimized the temperature regime in the final stages of production.

Mechanical tests confirmed that the balls meet the requirements of DSTU. The first batch of nearly 500 tons of high-quality products has already been shipped to the Mining.

According to Kametstal’s chief rolling mill operator, Alexander Oliynyk, the result was made possible by the coordinated work of several workshops at the enterprise and the adaptation of technologies to consumer needs.

It should be noted that Kametstal plans to invest UAH 2.5 billion ($59.8 million) in production capacity in 2025, which is a record amount in recent years. The largest project is the overhaul of DP-9, which will receive a third of the program’s total budget. In total, the plant plans to implement 114 investment projects during the year.

Це черговий крок підприємства у розширенні товарного асортименту й підвищенні якості продукції, затребуваної промисловими споживачами.

Виробництво куль-100 стартувало у 2023 році. Щоб забезпечити необхідні характеристики, прокатники модернізували обладнання за власними кресленнями. Завдяки чітко визначеним параметрам загартування підприємство спершу змогло виготовити кулі третьої групи твердості.

У 2025 році фахівці «Каметсталі» поставили за мету перейти на п’яту групу твердості. В результаті серії експериментів вдалося досягти необхідної поверхневої та об’ємної твердості. Для цього змінили режим термообробки, налаштували обертання ковшового конвеєра та барабана загартувального пристрою, збільшили подачу води, а також оптимізували температурний режим на завершальних етапах виробництва.

Механічні випробування підтвердили відповідність куль вимогам ДСТУ. Уже відвантажено першу партію – майже 500 т – високоякісної продукції до ГЗК.

За словами головного прокатника «Каметсталі» Олександра Олійника, досягнутий результат став можливим завдяки злагодженій роботі кількох цехів підприємства та адаптації технологій під потреби споживачів.

Нагадаємо, що «Каметсталь» у 2025 році планує інвестувати у виробничі потужності 2,5 млрд грн ($59,8 млн), що є рекордним обсягом за останні роки. Наймасштабніший проєкт – капремонт ДП-9, який отримає третину всього бюджету програми. Загалом протягом року на комбінаті планують реалізувати 114 інвестиційних проєктів.
