The plant has implemented automated metering systems that optimize electricity and water consumption
Dnipro Metallurgical Plant (DMZ), a member of the DCH Steel Group, achieved a significant reduction in energy consumption in 2024 due to the introduction of modern technologies and modernization of the metering system. This is stated in the company’s corporate newspaper.
The company’s power engineers replaced energy-intensive equipment with more efficient equipment and expanded the use of automated energy metering systems.
One of the key achievements of the year was the introduction of an automated electricity metering system at the coke production facility. This system allows us to monitor the energy consumption of each unit and machine in real time.
“The system has helped us significantly reduce electricity consumption per ton of coke produced, which has improved the overall energy efficiency of the enterprise,” said Denis Filenko, Chief Power Engineer of the plant.
The metering system has been in operation at the steelmaking facility for several years and is constantly being improved. In 2024, additional metering devices were installed in specialized shops, such as the equipment repair shop, production preparation shop, and railway shop.
Another important achievement was the decommissioning of energy-intensive power transformers. The power supply shop specialists were able to change the power supply schemes, lay new cables and reconnect a significant amount of equipment. This helped to significantly reduce electricity consumption.
In addition to reducing energy consumption, DMZ has also made progress in saving water. Thanks to the repairs, the company reduced the amount of water supplied by Dniprovodokanal. Negotiations are currently being finalized to conclude a new contract that will reflect the plant’s current needs and allow for additional savings.
Despite the challenges of wartime, including power outages and restrictions due to enemy shelling, the company’s power engineers ensure the stable operation of networks and machinery. They monitor the equipment on a daily basis and keep it in good condition, demonstrating high professionalism even in difficult conditions.
As GMK Center reported earlier, in 2023, DMZ increased rolled steel production by 86.2% year-on-year – to 105.6 thousand tons. Last year, the company’s production of metallurgical coke increased by 38.5% compared to 2022, up to 292.7 thousand tons.
Dnipro Metallurgical Plant is one of the largest metallurgical enterprises in Ukraine. It is part of DCH Steel, a division of DCH Group. DMZ produces the largest range of channels and angles in Ukraine. Currently, the company is the only domestic producer of special profiles for the machine building and mining industries.
