The economic effect of implementing energy-saving solutions at Central Mining amounts to UAH 90 million

In 2024, the Central Mining and Processing Plant (Central GOK) implemented 20 energy-saving projects that brought significant savings and efficiency in resource use to the company. The total economic effect of equipment modernization and the introduction of new technologies amounted to UAH 90 million. This is stated in a press release by Metinvest.Media.

One of the biggest achievements of the year was the installation of three modern heat pumps in the heating system of the company’s training and course complex. This technical re-equipment allowed the plant to save 249.8 Gcal of heat energy per year. In addition, a new water treatment plant was built on the site to provide the plant with a full supply of high-quality water. This initiative helped save UAH 3 million per year.

One of the largest projects was the installation of a high-voltage frequency converter to drive unregulated pumping units at the slurry pumping station of the sludge management shop. Thanks to the new switching system, the converter can operate five pumping units, which allows for speed control, smooth start-up, and optimized energy consumption. The implementation of this project will save up to UAH 26 million per year.

In addition, Central GOK has successfully launched an automated system for commercial and technical electricity metering. This system, which includes 673 metering points, allows the plant to plan electricity consumption more efficiently and reduce energy costs. This technology not only reduces the cost of production, but also enables prompt management decisions to be made, which ensures continuous optimization of equipment operation. The economic effect of this project in 2024 amounted to more than UAH 28 million.

Additionally, as part of a project to install 20 frequency converters for the drives of technological equipment at the crushing and concentrating plants, the plant saved more than UAH 10 million. This initiative has significantly improved equipment performance control and optimized the technological process, which in turn has led to a reduction in electricity consumption.

According to the plans for 2025, the Central Mining and Processing Plant plans to implement more than 30 more energy-saving projects, which will allow the company to further reduce costs and improve its efficiency.

Over the past year, Central GOK has been increasing its production capacity and ended the year at almost 100% capacity utilization. In particular, the Kolachevsky mine reached its planned productivity. In addition, the company actively worked to reduce energy intensity and production costs by introducing innovative energy-efficient technologies.
