SSAB increased steel production by 3.3% y/y in 1H2026

Rental revenue for the same period increased by 2.6% y/y

The Swedish steelmaker SSAB has published its financial and operational results for the first half of 2026. For the period, steel production totalled 4.05 million tonnes (+3.3% year-on-year), rolled steel output rose to 3.75 million tonnes (+2.7% year-on-year), and total shipments increased to 3.5 million tonnes compared with 3.4 million tonnes last year. This is stated in the company’s report.

In the second quarter, steel production rose by 3.3% year-on-year – to 2.04 million tonnes. Rolled steel production increased to 1.88 million tonnes, compared with 1.87 million tonnes a year earlier. Shipments of finished steel products reached 1.76 million tonnes (+3% year-on-year).

Key financial performance indicators (first half-year and second-quarter trends):

1. Revenue. In January–June 2026, SSAB’s revenue rose by 3% – to 52,825 million Swedish kronor (SEK), compared with 51,154 million SEK for the same period last year. In the second quarter, the figure rose by 7% year-on-year and by 8% compared with the first quarter of 2026, reaching 27,489 million SEK.
2. Operating profit (EBIT). For the first half of the year, EBIT rose by 40.2% – to 4,896 million SEK (compared with 3,491 million SEK in the first half of 2025). In the second quarter, operating profit increased by 25.9% to SEK 2,695 million (compared with SEK 2,140 million in the second quarter of 2025).
3. EBITDA and margin: EBITDA for the first six months rose by 26.9% – to SEK 7,014 million, whilst the EBITDA margin increased to 13% (from 11% a year earlier). In the second quarter, EBITDA amounted to SEK 3,778 million, with a margin of 14%.

The main driver of growth was the SSAB Europe segment, which increased its EBIT almost sixfold to SEK 624 million (compared with SEK 110 million in Q2 2025) due to higher prices and lower raw material costs. The SSAB Special Steels division generated an operating profit of SEK 1,446 million (margin of 19%), whilst SSAB Americas generated SEK 714 million (compared with SEK 807 million last year due to rising scrap costs).

As reported by GMK Center, SSAB’s steel production in January–March 2026 totalled 2.01 million tonnes, up 3.3% compared with the same period last year. At the same time, rolled steel production rose by 5.2% year-on-year – to 1.87 million tonnes. Total steel deliveries reached 1.74 million tonnes, up 3.6% year-on-year.
