Upgrading the equipment of the first technological link is among the main priorities of the enterprise

Kametstal is carrying out a large-scale overhaul of sintering machine No. 9, one of the key units of its sinter production. This is the largest equipment upgrade in recent years, covering mechanical, electrical and engineering components, according to a press release.

The work is carried out daily at all sections of the machine. The process involves specialists from Kametstal’s repair shops, contractors and employees of the sinter shop. The main goal is to extend the service life of the equipment and increase its productivity.

The key tasks include the complete replacement of the guide rails, stone-cast multicyclone blocks and dust hoppers. The dismantling has been completed, and the installation of new units is underway.

Special attention is being paid to the renewal of the mechanical part: repair of the sintering belt, sintering trolleys, seals and rails. Another important part is the modernization of vacuum chambers, which will improve the quality of sinter and the efficiency of the unit.

As part of the electrical upgrade, the exhauster motor is being replaced, and the cable infrastructure and control panels are being updated. Some of the old drives are being replaced with modern frequency converters.

“This is the largest overhaul in recent years. We expect not only an increase in productivity but also a reduction in emergency shutdowns. Some units, such as 120 sintering trolleys and the exhauster engine, were restored by our internal repair departments. We also continue to cooperate with ZLMZ’s partners, who are repairing gearboxes for the machine’s main drives,” said Andriy Koroteyev, Deputy Head of Engineering at the Sinter Shop.

As GMK Center previously reported, Kametstal has launched a major overhaul of one of its key steelmaking units, BOF vessel No. 1. The work is being carried out as part of the 2025 overhaul program with a focus on upgrading the main equipment and power systems.
