Zaporizhstal increased rolled steel production by 11.1% m/m in November

Zaporizhstal Iron and Steel Works increased its production of commercial rolled steel products by 11.1% in November 2024 compared to the previous month, to 191.4 thousand tons. The indicator approached the monthly average for 2024 after falling to its lowest level since June 2023 in October, according to the company’s data.

Pig iron production for the month amounted to 259.6 thousand tons, which is 1.9% less compared to October, and steel production – 227.3 thousand tons (+5.8% m/m). Compared to the same month in 2023, rolled products production decreased by 2.1%, pig iron production – by 1.2%, and steel production – by 5.6%.

In January-November, rolled steel production increased by 18.8% year-on-year – to 2.19 million tons. Pig iron production amounted to 2.82 million tons (+15% y/y), and steel production was 2.64 million tons (+18.2% y/y).

As GMK Center reported earlier, Zaporizhstal increased its output by 50.6% year-on-year to 7.24 million tons in 2023. In particular, the plant produced

  • pig iron – 2.72 million tons (+35.3% y/y);
  • steel – 2.47 million tons (+65.4%);
  • rolled products – 2.05 million tons (+57.2%).

Enemy shelling and destruction, interruptions in the supply of raw materials and energy, and disruption of logistics routes due to the blockade of seaports led to a decrease in Zaporizhstal’s production performance compared to pre-war levels. In particular, in 2021, the plant produced 4.5 million tons of iron, 3.8 million tons of steel and 3.2 million tons of rolled products. In 2023, the plant operated at an average of 70% of its capacity.
