Ukraine’s imports of coking coals fell by 9% in January–November

In January–November, Ukrainian coke plants reduced imports of coking coals and coking coal concentrate by 9% to 8.79 million tons against the previous year, according to the updated statistics of Ukrmetallurgprom.

Shipments of Ukrainian coal to domestic steel companies in 11M 2020 amounted to 3.30 million tons, 8% up from January–November 2019.

In general, in January–November of the current year, Ukrainian coke plants received a total of 12.09 million tons of coking coals, 5% down from the same period of the previous year.

The share of imported coals in the total supply was 72.7%, 3 pp down from January–November last year.

In January–November, 7.44 million tons of coke were supplied to Ukrainian coke plants, 9% down from the same period of the previous year. Almost all of the supplied coking coals, 7.32 million tons, were produced in Ukraine. This is 6% down from January–November of the previous year. Coke imports dropped by 68% to 0.12 million tons in 11M.

The share of imported coke in the total volume of supplies made up 1.61% against 4.75% in January–November 2019.

In 2019, Ukrainian coke plants received 13.92 million tons of coking coals. This is 4% down from the same period of 2018. The share of Ukrainian coals increased by a third to 3.5 million tons against 2018, whereas that of imported coals decreased by 12% to 10.43 million tons.
