Production of manganese concentrate in January-July 2022 fell by 19.8% year-on-year

Ferroalloy enterprises of Ukraine in January-July 2022 reduced production by 27.6% compared to the same period last year – to 360.2 thousand tons. Interfax-Ukraine agency reports about it with the reference to the Ukrainian Ferroalloy Manufacturers’ Association (UkrFA).

In 7 months of 2022, silicon manganese production decreased by 17.5% y/y – to 319.7 thousand tons, ferromanganese – by 67.6%, to 19.98 thousand tons. The output of ferrosilicon (in conversion by 45%) in January-July 2022 decreased by 60.5% y/y – up to 18.1 thousand tons, metallic manganese by 55.6% – up to 1.81 thousand tons. 1.81 thousand tons of other ferroalloys were also produced.

Pokrovsky (PGOK) and Marganetsk mining and processing plants (MGOK) in 7 months of 2022 produced a total of 777.5 thousand tons of manganese concentrate, which is 19.8% less compared to the same period last year. At the same time, MGOK produced 294.7 thousand tons of concentrate (-5.6%), and PGOK – 482.8 thousand tons (-26.5%).

In January-July 2022, PGOK also produced 29.55 thousand tons of iron ore sinter (-82.7%) and delivered it to the Dnipro Metallurgical Plant (DMP). Since March, PGOK has not produced iron ore sinter, as DMP has temporarily stopped the production of steel products.

As GMK Center reported earlier, in July 2022, Ukraine exported 10.5 thousand tons of ferroalloys, which is 85% less than in July 2021. In 7 months of 2022, the export of ferroalloys decreased by 37.5% compared to January-July 2021 – to 243.07 thousand tons.

As GMK Center reported earlier, Ukraine in 2021 increased production of ferroalloys by 15% compared to 2020 – to 858.7 thousand tons, but reduced the production of manganese concentrate by 6.6%, to 1.76 million tons.
