Ukraine increased its exports of long rolled products by 56.7% y/y in January-July

In January-July 2025, Ukrainian steel companies increased exports of long rolled steel by 56.7% compared to the same period in 2024, to 498.97 thousand tons. This is evidenced by GMK Center calculations based on data from the State Customs Service.

Other carbon steel bars and rods, not further worked, twisted (HS code 7214) accounted for 39% of total exports of long products, amounting to 194.41 thousand tons (+250.3% y-o-y). The bulk of the products were sent to Poland – 115.04 thousand tons. Another 53.43 thousand tons were exported to Moldova, and 5.26 thousand tons – to Lithuania.

During the period, Ukrainian producers also exported 194.4 thousand tons of hot-rolled bars and rods made of carbon steel in coils (HS code 7213), which is 38.5% more than last year. 91.42 thousand tons were shipped to Romania, 49.12 thousand tons to Poland, and 16.74 thousand tons to Bulgaria.

Another 77.73 thousand tons (+4.7% y-o-y) of exports were accounted for by carbon steel wire (HS code 7217). Key consumers include Poland (29.27 thousand tons), Germany (14.34 thousand tons), and the Czech Republic (9.76 thousand tons).

In July 2025, exports of long products from Ukraine amounted to 87.02 thousand tons, which is 40.7% more than in July 2024 and 13.9% less than in the previous month. Shipments of other carbon steel bars and rods, without further processing, twisted amounted to 36.67 thousand tons (+85.6% y/y; +1.1% m/m), hot-rolled bars and rods made of carbon steel, in coils – 35.73 thousand tons (+68.5% y/y; -27.4% m/m), and wire – 10.2 thousand tons (+4.3% y/y; -0.6% m/m).

Foreign exchange earnings from exports of long products in January-July increased by 43.4% y/y – to $346.96 million, and in July increased by 40% y/y and decreased by 13.6% m/m – to $60.56 million.

In 2024, Ukraine increased its exports of long rolled steel products by 17.3% compared to 2023, from 523.34 thousand tons to 613.73 thousand tons. More than 42% of the total volume of long product exports is accounted for by hot-rolled bars and rods made of carbon steel, in coils (HS code 7213) – 258.33 thousand tons (+23% y/y). Foreign exchange earnings from long products exports in 2024 increased by 15.1% y-o-y – to $452.18 million.
