Ukrainian mining and metals plants in January-June 2022 reduced the export of titanium-containing ores and concentrate by 46.2% compared to the same period in 2021, to 157.3 thousand tons, according to the State Customs Service data.
In monetary terms, the export of titanium-containing ores over the six months decreased by 21.1%, to $60.6 million.
Most Ukrainian raw materials were exported to the Czech Republic – 52.18% (to the USA – 15.28%, and to China – 6.71%).
In January-June 2021, Ukraine imported 0.1 thousand tons of similar products from Senegal wotrh $138 thousand, while in January-June 2021 – 445.5 tons worth $399.6 thousand.
At the end of 2021, Ukraine increased the export of titanium-containing ores and concentrate by 3% compared to 2020, to 553.05 thousand tons. In monetary terms, exports increased by 17%, to $161.9 million. The biggest export was to Mexico (21.23% of supplies in monetary terms).
Ukraine is one of the few countries which have a full titanium production cycle from the extraction of titanium-containing ores and their processing to the production of finished products.
Currently, titanium ores are mined by United Mining and Chemical Company (VGMK and IGOK), Mizhrichensky Mining and Valki-Ilmenit. In addition, Velta built a mining and concentration complex at the Birzulovskyi field with a capacity of 240,000 tons of ilmenite concentrate per year.
