SHS-Gruppe has signed an agreement with France’s Verso Energy to supply green hydrogen

The German SHS-Gruppe (Stahl-Holding-Saar Gruppe), together with its subsidiaries Dillinger, Saarstahl, and ROGESA, has signed a 10-year contract with French energy company Verso Energy for the supply of green hydrogen. This was reported by H2 View.

Starting in 2029, Verso will supply the German group with at least 6,000 tons of green hydrogen annually from its Carling Hydrogen Next Generation (CarlHYng) project in France. It will be intended for Dillinger, Saarstahl, and ROGESA. Each company is moving to a new level as part of the government-supported SHS-Gruppe – Power4Steel decarbonization program.

The French energy company plans to supply the steelworks in Dillingen via the mosaHYc cross-border pipeline, after which it will be distributed to SHS facilities. The hydrogen, together with scrap metal, will be used in direct reduction and electric arc furnaces to reduce carbon emissions.

The Verso electrolyzer plant is currently under development. At the same time, mosaHYc was commissioned in 2024, so the infrastructure for hydrogen transportation is already in place for its construction.

As a reminder, SHS has received official approval under the Federal Immission Control Act (BImSchG) for the construction and operation of key facilities for the Power4Steel project – a direct reduction iron (DRI) plant and two electric arc furnaces (EAF) in Dillingen and Völklingen.
