$300 млн компанія спрямує на безпеку шахт, решта – на екологію та модернізацію

Qarmet presented a large-scale five-year investment plan worth $3.5 billion during the 15th International Mining and Metallurgical Congress AMM-2025 in Astana. The company said in a statement.

One of the main areas of development is occupational safety, especially in coal mines. $300 million will be allocated for this purpose. A significant portion of the funds is also invested in environmental initiatives and the upgrade of production facilities.

Qarmet’s Deputy Chairman of the Board Zaure Zaurbekova emphasized that employee safety has become a key priority for the company. Programs for methane degassing, positioning and control are already underway in cooperation with research centers.

In her opinion, the development of the mining and metals industry is only possible with a long-term government strategy.

“We need coherent legislation and stable rules of the game for at least 20 years ahead,” Zaurbekova added.

Despite the difficulties – high equipment wear and tear, staff shortages and competition with Russian steelmakers – Qarmet is already showing growth: steel output increased by 15% and iron output by 12%.

The company has also entered a new area for itself – mechanical engineering. For the first time in the history of Kazakhstan, buses will be made of domestic galvanized steel. The metal is being supplied to QazTehna, which is launching the country’s first stamping body.

As GMK Center reported earlier, in 2024, Qarmet exceeded its production targets for almost all key products. In particular, the plan for iron production was exceeded by 15%, steel production by 15%, coke production by 18%, sinter production by 12%, and section production by 17%. The company’s business plan for the current year provides for the production of 3.7 million tons of steel.
