Kyrgyzstan extends ban on scrap exports for six months

Kyrgyzstan has extended its ban on exports of scrap and ferrous metal waste, as well as ferrous metal ingots for remelting (EAEU HS code 7204), for another six months. This is stated in a message from the country’s government.

The resolution was signed on September 4 and will take effect 10 days after the date of its official publication. The relevant authorities have been instructed to take the necessary measures to implemetment it.

The Kyrgyz government initially introduced a ban on the export of ferrous metal scrap and waste outside the customs territory of the EAEU in January 2023, and then consistently extended it. The ban was last extended for another six months in March 2025.

In July 2025, the global scrap market showed limited price growth in most key regions. The impact of unstable demand, seasonal decline in activity, logistical difficulties, and currency fluctuations created a challenging market environment. In particular, Turkey saw a slight increase in prices amid a shortage of raw materials, while China stood out with an increase in domestic prices despite a decline in imports.

As GMK Center reported earlier, in the first quarter of this year, global consumption of ferrous scrap declined in most key regions. According to BIR data, its use declined in China, the EU, the US, Japan, Turkey, and South Korea. The only major market where consumption increased was India.
