In January-June, Ukrzaliznytsia shipped almost 16 million tons of iron ore

In January-June 2022, Ukraine’s state-run railway operator Ukrzaliznytsia reduced export shipments of iron and manganese ore by 29.3% compared to the same period in 2021, to 15.7 million tons, Rail.Insider reported citing Ukrzaliznytsia data.

Ferrous metals export shipments in the first half of the year decreased by 52.6% compared to January-June 2021, to 3.7 million tons. In the export rail transportation ore ranks first – 47% of the total volume of transported goods , and ferrous metals – 11%.

In general, over 6 months, Ukrzaliznytsia shipped 85 million tons of cargo, which is 42.2% less compared to January-June 2021. In January, 26.2 million tons and 22.3 tons of cargo were shipped by rail, respectively. The lowest figure was recorded in March – 8.3 million tons. At the same time, in the second quarter, shipping fluctuated at the level of 9.2-9.6 million tons per month.

According to the results of the first half of the year, 33.4 million tons of cargo were transported for export by rail (39.2% of the total volume). Compared to the same period in 2021, the indicator decreased by 34.3%, or 17.5 million tons.

Earlier GMK Center reported, that Ukrzaliznytsia in 2021 reduced iron and manganese ore shipments by 2.7% compared to 2020, to 77.6 million tons. Export traffic fell by 3% to 44.6 million tons, while domestic increased by 3.1%, to 27, 7 million tons.
