News Global Market flat & long steel prices 156 14 July 2026
The company’s strategy is driven by the uncertainty of market conditions
Tokyo Steel, a leading Japanese electric arc furnace steel producer, has left its prices for hot-rolled coil (HRC), rebar and I-beams unchanged for August sales. This was reported by BigMint.
The latest prices remain unchanged from the previous month; specifically, the offer for HRC (1.7–22 mm) stands at 100,000 yen/t ($616/t),
and for rebar (D13–25) at 93,000 yen/t ($573/t).
Tokyo Steel’s cautious pricing strategy, the agency notes, is due to uncertainty in market conditions caused by rising global inflation, volatile exchange rates and increased energy costs.
The company noted that rising supply costs across the entire manufacturing sector have led to an increase in overall market prices. This has prompted it to maintain current supply levels in order to facilitate the passing on of future price changes to consumers whilst supporting market stability.
Tokyo Steel also noted that progress in anti-dumping investigations into steel imports has gradually improved the domestic balance of supply and demand.
The company expects consumption of steel products to be supported by large-scale construction projects. At the same time, the focus on carbon neutrality continues to drive demand for steel produced in electric arc furnaces.
It should be recalled that Baosteel raised prices for key flat steel products, in particular hot-rolled coil (HRC), for domestic sales in August, anticipating an improvement in domestic demand in the future.
